I am writing this for myself as a reference to go back to. Of course you are all welcome to use it as well. ;) We are starting a series at Church called 40 days of Love. I am for the first time joining a small group. I am excited for this to start next Monday night. :) This sermon today was a preview for next week I took notes (I usually do not) and really want to keep these around. What better place than my blog? Enjoy!
It's All About Love
"Let love be your greatest aim" 1 Cor 14:1 (LB)
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all you mind, and all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. There are no commands more important than these." Mark 12:30-31 (NCV)
"Everything you do must be done with love" 1 Cor 16:14 (NLT)
The Basics of Love
We love because God loves us.
"Love comes from God.......for God is love" 1 John 4:7-8 (NLT)
"We love because God first loved us" 1 John 4:19 (NIV)
"We know and rely on the love Gad has for us" 1 John 4:16 (NIV)
Love is a choice and a commitment.
"Choose to love the Lord your God.....and commit yourself to him" Deu 30:20 (NLT)
Love is an action not an emotion!
"Let us not love with words or tongue but with the actions and truth" 1 John 3:18 (NIV)
We know this because God commands us to love. You can not command an emotion. But you can command an action!
Love it a skill I can learn.
"Dear friends, let us practice loving each other, for love comes from God and those who are loving and kind show that they are the children of God, and they are getting to know him better" 1 John 4:7 (LB)
"Practice these things and devote yourself to them, in order that your progress may be seen by all" 1 Tim 4:15 (TEV)
Love is a habit.
"Continue to love each other with true Christian love" Heb 13:1 (NLT)
"If you only love those who love you, what credit is that to you?" Luke 6:32 (NIV)
"Test yourselves to make sure you are solid in the faith. Don't drift along taking everything for granted. Give yourselves regular check-ups. You need firsthand evidence, not mere hearsay, that Jesus Christ is in you. Test it out. If you fail the test, do something about it. 2 Cor 13:5 (Mes)
We say we "love" lots of things. Love it thrown around too much.
Lust can not wait to get
Love can not wait to give
Hurt people hurt people. Just a fact if we hurt then we want others to hurt too.
Love can not be forced.
Jesus: "By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love to one another" John 13:35 (KJV)
How to become Great at your Relationship
1. Commit to Grow
2. Learn how Jesus did it
3. Practice the Skills
4. Develop Habits
5. Trust God to Help
"This is my prayer for you: that your love will grow more and more, and that you will have knowledge and understanding with your love" Phil 1:9 (NCV)
